1. About Cedar Wills

Cedar Wills (“Cedar Wills,” “we,” “us”) provides an online self-help will template tool for residents of Ontario, Canada. Cedar Wills is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice, legal opinions, recommendations, referrals, or counselling. Use of Cedar Wills does not create a lawyer-client relationship between you and Cedar Wills.

We are a self-help platform. We provide will templates and a guided questionnaire that produces a draft document. You are solely responsible for the contents of the document, for executing it correctly under the laws of your jurisdiction, and for determining whether the resulting document meets your needs.

2. Eligibility

  • You must be at least 18 years of age.
  • You must be legally capable of making a will (sound mind, no undue influence, no fraud).
  • Cedar Wills is currently designed for residents of Ontario, Canada under the Succession Law Reform Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. S.26.

3. Not Legal Advice

The information, templates, content, and tools provided by Cedar Wills are for general informational purposes only and are not legal advice. We do not review, evaluate, or guarantee the accuracy or sufficiency of any document you create using our templates for your specific circumstances. If you have any legal questions, or your situation is complex (blended family, business assets, cross-border property, special-needs dependants, taxable estates, or anticipated will challenges), you should consult a licensed lawyer.

4. No Lawyer-Client Relationship

No part of your interaction with Cedar Wills creates a lawyer-client relationship. Communications between you and Cedar Wills (including form submissions, support inquiries, and emails) are not protected by lawyer-client privilege. If you require legal advice or representation, please retain a licensed lawyer.

5. Your Responsibilities

  • You must provide accurate and complete information when using the tool. The output document is only as accurate as your inputs.
  • You are responsible for executing your will in compliance with applicable law (in Ontario: signed by you in the physical presence of two adult witnesses who are not beneficiaries or spouses of beneficiaries, who must also sign in your presence).
  • You are responsible for storing the executed will safely and for updating it after major life events (marriage, divorce, birth of children, significant changes in assets).

6. Fees and Refunds

Pricing is shown at checkout. Payments are processed by Stripe. Refund requests should be sent to support@cedarwills.ca within 14 days of purchase. Refunds are at our discretion and may be declined for accounts that have already generated and downloaded a completed document.

7. Intellectual Property

The Cedar Wills templates, software, and brand are owned by Cedar Wills. You receive a personal, non-exclusive licence to use the generated document for your own estate planning. You may not resell, republish, or commercially redistribute the templates or the tool.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Cedar Wills, its officers, directors, employees, and contractors are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, arising from your use of the service. Our total aggregate liability to you for any claim arising out of or relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid Cedar Wills in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.

Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law (including the Ontario Consumer Protection Act).

9. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold Cedar Wills harmless from any claims arising from your use of the service, your breach of these Terms, or your violation of any law or third-party rights.
