What can I create before Cedar launches finalization?

Accepted Answer

You can organize information and review a guided planning draft. Cedar does not currently provide a finalized document, hosted download, or signing checklist, and does not represent a current draft as ready to sign or use. Those outcomes remain blocked until Ontario legal and hosted-document approvals are complete.

Why are you not a law firm? Why does that matter?

Cedar is a self-help planning provider rather than a law firm. We do not assess your specific situation, recommend strategies, or guarantee that the resulting document achieves your goals. Please consult a lawyer for advice about whether a self-help tool is appropriate for you.

Is my situation simple enough to use Cedar Wills?

Accepted Answer

Cedar’s guided questions can help organize information, but the tool cannot decide whether your situation is legally simple or whether the finalization product will be appropriate for you. A licensed Ontario lawyer can advise you about your circumstances.

Question 5

When should I see a lawyer instead?

Accepted Answer

We strongly recommend a licensed lawyer if you have any of the following: assets or beneficiaries outside Canada; a business or professional practice; a blended family with step-children; children or dependants with disabilities or special needs; an estate likely to be subject to significant tax; an expectation that your will may be challenged; or a desire to disinherit a spouse, dependant, or child.

Can I use Cedar Wills if I live outside Ontario?

Not yet. Cedar’s guided planning experience is currently scoped to Ontario and does not produce finalized documents. If you live in another province, please join the waitlist on our coming-soon page and we’ll let you know when your province is live. Quebec uses civil-code notarial wills, which is a different product — please consult a Quebec notary.

Question 7

Who can be my witnesses?

Cedar does not currently provide a finalized document or signing instructions. Witness requirements can depend on the document and circumstances, so consult a licensed Ontario lawyer before signing or relying on a will.

Can I have my will witnessed remotely or via Zoom?

Accepted Answer

Cedar does not currently provide remote-witnessing guidance or a finalized document. Consult a licensed Ontario lawyer about the rules that apply to your circumstances before signing anything.

Question 9

Where should I store my signed will?

Accepted Answer

Cedar does not currently provide hosted final documents or storage guidance for a signed will. Ask a licensed Ontario lawyer about storing an existing will and ensuring the appropriate people can locate it.

Do I need to notarize my will?

Accepted Answer

Cedar cannot determine the signing or notarization steps for your circumstances. Consult a licensed Ontario lawyer before relying on a document.

Question 11

How do I update my will after a major life event?

Accepted Answer

During pre-launch you can sign in, edit your answers, and review a guided planning draft. Regeneration, final downloads, and signing instructions remain unavailable until required approvals are complete. Ask a licensed lawyer how a life event affects an existing will.

Question 12

Can Cedar assess whether my existing will remains valid?

Accepted Answer

No. Cedar does not assess the validity or legal effect of an existing will. Consult a licensed Ontario lawyer after major life events or whenever you are unsure whether an existing document still reflects your intentions.

Question 13

What happens to my will if I get married or divorced?

Accepted Answer

Marriage no longer automatically revokes a will in Ontario (the rule changed in 2022). Divorce treats your former spouse as if they predeceased you — meaning gifts to them are typically void. Either way, we recommend re-doing your will after either event so it cleanly reflects your current intent.

How much does Cedar Wills cost?

See the pricing page for the approved catalog: Cedar Essentials at $129 CAD, Cedar Complete at $199 CAD, and Cedar Complete for Two at $349 CAD, each plus applicable tax. These are one-time plans, but paid checkout is not yet available while the required product, legal, Terms, Privacy, and launch gates are completed.

Can I get a refund?

After paid launch, you may request a refund during the 30 calendar days after Cedar confirms the charge. Requests are reviewed and approval is not automatic. A confirmed full refund revokes future generation and hosted downloads but cannot revoke a local copy you already downloaded. Email support@cedarwills.ca.

Question 16

What do lifetime updates include?

Accepted Answer

For an active account, lifetime updates cover editing, regenerating, and hosted re-download of the document types included in that purchase while Cedar operates and supports that product. They do not add later products, new jurisdictions, third-party services, unsupported legal changes, or guarantee that Cedar will operate forever.

How is my data protected?

Accepted Answer

Will draft answers are encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM. All data in transit is protected by TLS. Hosted final documents and download URLs are not currently available; their launch remains subject to required security, privacy, legal, and product approvals. Question 18

Can I delete my account and all my data?

Accepted Answer

Yes — go to your account settings and click “Delete my account.” Your account locks immediately. After a 30-day grace period (during which you can cancel), your draft answers and account metadata are permanently wiped. Under Cedar's working retention policy, some minimal financial records are retained for 7 years; that policy remains subject to required privacy, legal, and finance approval before paid launch.

Do you sell my data?

Accepted Answer

No. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with marketers, data brokers, or any other third party. Your draft contents stay encrypted and are not used to train AI models.

Question 20

Will Cedar offer a plan for two adults?

Accepted Answer

Cedar Complete for Two is a planned product for two separately authenticated adults. Each adult will have an independent account, draft, document set, and entitlement; it is not a joint or mutual will. Checkout and partner invitations are not yet available.

Question 21

Can each adult make different choices?

Accepted Answer

The planned product keeps each adult’s choices and documents separate. If either situation is complex, including different blended families or business assets, consult a licensed lawyer.

I’m stuck. How do I get help?

Accepted Answer

Email support@cedarwills.ca. We can help with using the tool (e.g. resetting a password, recovering a draft) but we cannot answer legal questions — those require a licensed lawyer.

I think there’s a bug. Where do I report it?

Accepted Answer

Email support@cedarwills.ca with as much detail as you can — what you were doing, what you expected to happen, what actually happened, and a screenshot if possible. Do not include will answers or other sensitive personal information in the email.
